Return to Flying after 35yrs

To Whom it may concern

If you have ever thought about learning to fly, just book and Introductory Flight with Peter and Gill at Skyflyte Aviation, and I can assure you that you will find it an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

With a classification of "elderly" I wasn't sure I would be able to cope with the discipline and concentration required.

Those concerns were quickly dispelled during the Introductory Flight.

With a beautiful view and some basic maneuvers, it was fantastic - and convinced me to continue with lessons.

Peter is a highly qualified Instructor with a calm and logical approach and luckily for me loads of patients. Gill handles the administration, and together they provide a balanced and personal environment in which you can confidently pursue your love of flying.

Determination and Passion - I will make this happen!!

I am a student pilot and have done all my flight training with Peter Reed from SkyFlyte.

Peter and his partner Gilly take a personal interest in their students and do everything in their power to ensure their students reach their full potential.

There were some aspects of flying that I had difficulty mastering but Peter found innovative ways to get the point across.

I fly the Foxbat A22LS aircraft which is modern and very well maintained.

A GoPro video is provided after each flight and is a valuable tool to review each lesson to see how your flying techniques can be improved.

Safety in aviation is imperative and Peter instills a strong flight safety culture in all his students.

Follow your dream and take a Trial Instruction Flight with SkyFlyte, you won’t regret it.

Got my 1st Wings with Skyflyte

I'd always loved flying and had taken 5 or 6 trial flights around Australia but never thought I could ever become a pilot, then after moving back to Tasmania I became a member of the Devonport Aero Club which held a BBQ and a flight experience for members once a month. That's when I met Peter and Gill and got talking to Peter about how I always wanted to fly. He asked if I was doing the flying experience and I said I'd love to but hadn't flown for a long time and didn't fly much as I had only done trial flights before, but i always wanted to try and land a plane. Pete said no problem sign up and let's give it a go. I couldn't believe it this guy who is so laid back was going to let me try and land a plane!

Within ten minutes of talking to me after that flight I was hooked. I didn't land it that day by the way but with Peter it was so easy to learn not like any of my other trial flights I'd had. So I book a lesson and met his partner Gill ( the ground support) lol. And that is exactly what you get a friendly face with a ton of support who will go out of her way to try and help any way she can.

Three months later and I became a RAA pilot. Then I got thinking about doing more as I'd been taught so well that I signed up and started doing my PPL - and now just over ten months later I'm two flights off my PPL licence and moving on to CPL next year which I never thought I could do until I met Peter and Gill. They gave me the skills and confidence to do what I have always dreamed of doing.

Now I'm living the dream thanks guys!!

RAA-us to Flying High in Jets

I started learning to fly with Pete and Gill when I was 16. Within 2 months I had flown solo and within 9 months I had my RA-Aus Pilot Certificate. I’m now 19 and a Pilot in the Air Force. Learning to fly with Pete and Gill fueled my interest for aviation, not to mention being extremely fun! Pete teaches raw ‘stick and rudder’ flying which gives you fundamental skills for any aircraft you may fly. Gill was the friendly face on the ground who made all the paperwork a breeze. I would recommend Pete and Gill to anyone who wants to fly for fun or make a start on their aviation career.

Best Start to my Flying Career

I started my flying training when I was 16 and in Year 11. I'm amazed that in all of Australia I was lucky enough to learn under the powerhouse team that is Pete and Gill!
My trial instruction flight confirmed my interest in an aviation career and I loved every minute in the air. I was surprised at how quickly I was allowed to fly solo, which made it much less daunting than doing so towards the end of my training. I have found and still find the video recording of each flight an amazing tool for learning and improving, a fantastic supplement to "chair flying".
Pete is an incredible instructor who really pushes you to improve your flying. His teaching of stick and rudder control will give you skills that can be transferred to any aircraft type. Business Manager and female pilot extraordinaire Gill is Pete's partner and will make sure the paperwork side of your flight training is easy.
I can't recommend Pete and Gill highly enough for RA-Aus flight training.

I Was Hooked after my 1st Flight at 15yrs old

As a small and nervous just-turned-15-year-old, Pete gave me the rudders on my Trial Instruction Flight, and I’ve never looked back. Like many, after the first taste I was hooked. I scored myself a job to fund my passion. Later that year I took to the skies solo for the first time, at the youngest legal age of 15. After some more time buzzing around the NW coast honing my skills under the watchful eye of Pete, I earned my wings; and shortly thereafter my passenger endorsement. Since then I’ve been enjoying the beauty of Tasmania from the air for almost a year, having just passed 50 hours total flight time.

It absolutely astounds me how lucky I was to learn under the master-level tutorage of Peter Reed. There is NO question in aviation he cannot answer, and it’s clear to me that he has a passion for teaching and creating safe, skilled pilots. He has more years’ experience than he cares to mention, and it shows in the eternal patience he has in the cockpit. The skills that I have learned from him will stay with my flying forever. Pete’s partner Gill Quinn is equally vital in the smooth running of the flight school. She’s the friendly face on the ground and handles all the paperwork, making it all easy as pie. Having recently acquired her license herself, she is amazing to discuss aviation with, and is just an all-round legendary person. She supports you and will go out of her way to help you in any way possible. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I have spent many a lazy summer afternoon at the airport meeting and greeting people from all walks of life, and we all have one thing in common, we’re passionate about aviation. No matter how young or old, that dream goal is much, much closer and more achievable than you could ever believe. If there was ONE THING I could change about my training, I would have started earlier. All your doubts and concerns will be left behind on the ground when you take your first flight with Skyflyte. So, if you’re on the fence, do yourself a favour and book your TIF right now! (Trust me on this one) ?

Lets get this Box Ticked

I started learning to fly way back in 1975 with a fairly large flying school, and you got whichever instructor was available for each lesson. Unfortunately that meant that there was no consistency of training. Due to money constraints, I had to put things on the back burner after 15 hours with 5 hours solo.

37 years later I decided I'd better finish what I started, so I looked around for a local flight school. That's when I discovered Peter Reed and SkyFlyte Aviation. Peter has the unique ability to tailor the training to suit the individual student, ensuring that each student learns at their own pace. Each lesson builds on the one before and Peter adds a little extra on your workload until before you know it, you're doing all the flying and Peter is just along for the ride ensuring that you don't make any mistakes, and to provide advice as well as constructive criticism.

The in-cockpit videos are an invaluable training aid, not only to provide reinforcement of the lessons learned, but also when the weather is terrible, you can still learn from reviewing previous lessons.

Safety is Peter's number one priority, so not only do you learn how to fly, you learn to be a safe pilot.

I can't forget to also mention the happy smiling face of SkyFlyte Aviation, Gill. Her organisational skills ensure the smooth running of the business so that everything happens as it should from the moment you book your lesson, to the moment you walk out the door after your flight, wearing that “aviator's grin”. My only regret is that Peter and Skyflyte Aviation weren't around when I was first learning to fly.
