I would definitely fall into the category of an ‘Accidental Pilot’ (not literally though!). When Peter and I joined forces, I didn’t have an aviation bone in my body. That was about to change!!
Peter Reed and I own and operate Skyflyte Flying School out of Wynyard and Devonport, he is the Chief Flying Instructor – and I am on the ground doing administration and organising our Students.
As we have a private strip on our property, we fly to and from work each day. In the early days I said to Peter something along the lines of – maybe you should show me a few ‘basics’ of flying in case you have a 'hearty' or something!! Well, I quickly worked out that there were no ‘basics’ in flying as every day is quite different. So, I decided to go through the Syllabus at my own pace and I obtained my RAA-us Certificate in 2017 – who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I am now Peter’s private chauffeur as well and love it.
I am also an active member of ‘The Australian Women Pilots’ Association’ (AWPA). I was President of the Tasmanian Branch for 2 years and am now Vice President. I always encourage the ladies to get involved – both in learning to fly and with the AWPA.
Flying in Tasmania is amazing, I never get tired of the stunning scenery. When I am not flying, I put my ‘Farmer’ hat on and do battle with our cows, chickens, bees and vege garden on our 90acre Farm in NW Tasmania.
I love being part of Skyflyte, we are a ‘2-man’ team and we pride ourselves on delivering an extremely high standard - with flight safety the highest priority. I love the amazing smiles and hugs when a milestone has been reached – particularly 1st Solo and the end result - an RAA-us Pilot Certificate.
